Obituary

STEELEVILLE - Norma Rodewald, 98, of Steeleville, Illinois, died Tuesday, August 25, 2020, at Randolph County Care Center in Sparta, Illinois.

She was born February 8, 1922, in Percy, Illinois to Albert R. and Adella Hartman Guebert. Norma was preceded in death by her parents, two husbands, Herbert E. Liefer and Wilbert H. Rodewald, and two sons, Paul Rodewald and David Rodewald.

Surviving are her children, Wayne (Nancy) Rodewald, Tampa, Florida; Vivian Downing, Cape May Court House, New Jersey; Tom Liefer, Las Vegas, Nevada; Lloyd (Lucinda) Rodewald, Sparta; Doris (Jay) Groves, Bloomington, Illinois; and daughter-in-law Susan Rodewald, Ava, Illinois. She is also survived by 13 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren.

Norma was an active member of St. Mark's Lutheran Church and the Priscilla Club. She was also a member of the American Legion BBK Post 480 Auxiliary.

In her youth, Norma was employed at the International Shoe Company in Steeleville. Later in life, she worked as a cook for 13 years at St. Mark's Lutheran School. Her volunteer service included many years as an election judge in Steeleville and as a hospice care worker, providing comfort for many families.

A person of strong faith and generosity, Norma was a devoted spouse, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. Her Steeleville home was a welcoming gathering place for family and for countless friends, and no one left her home without a kiss, a hug, and a heartfelt "I love you," from Norma.

Private funeral services will be held Saturday, August 29, 2020 at Wilson's Funeral Home, Steeleville. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Mark's Lutheran School, 504 N. James St., Steeleville. By executive order, we are limited to 25 people in the building at any one time with face masks and social distancing being followed.

Norma's family extends a special thank you to the nurses and care givers at Randolph County Care Center who provided wonderful, loving care, along with many hugs to our mother, especially during these past six months.
