STEELEVILLE – Norma Jean Harmsen, 93, of Steeleville, IL, passed away on Wednesday, June 18, 2025, at Three Springs Senior Living Center, Chester, Illinois.

Jean was born on June 25, 1931, in Steeleville. She was the eldest of five children of Alfons and Inez (Deppe) Bollmann. Jean attended St. Mark's Lutheran Grade School and Steeleville High School, graduating from Sparta High School. She was a proud member of the Forty-Niners and Diamond Dolls Social Society.

On October 28, 1951, she married the love of her life, Harold "Hattie" Harmsen at St. Mark's Lutheran Church in Steeleville. They celebrated sixty-eight wonderful years together. They were the proud parents of three children: Bruce (Kim) Harmsen, Susan (Marc) Kiehna and Brenda (Jim) Heinzmann. She was always active in her children's lives, serving as a Cub Scout Pack Leader, Girl Scout Troop Leader, and Room Mother. Jean was a member of Peace Lutheran Church where she served as a Sunday School teacher, Bible School teacher and was a member of WELCA.  She was the owner of the Village Craft Shoppe in Steeleville.

Jean was preceded in death by her husband, parents and brothers: Marvin, William and Roy (Carolyn) Bollmann.

Jean is survived by her three children, four grandchildren: Lauren Kiehna (Mark Havard), Whitney Heinzmann (Tyler Graham), Megan Smith (Peter Owens), Adrian Harmsen; and four great grandchildren: Henry & Norah Smith, Fiona Graham, and Grace Havard. She is also survived by one brother, Robert (Lynette) Bollmann and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

Jean's wishes were for cremation, and a Memorial service will be held on Wednesday, June 25, 2025, at 11:00 am, at Peace Lutheran Church, Steeleville, with Pastor Ken Tegtmeier officiating. Memorials may be given to Hospice of Southern Illinois or St. Jude Children's Hospital and can be mailed to Wilson's Funeral Home, P.O. Box 217, Steeleville, IL 62288.
