SPARTA – Myron C. Sykes, 90, of Sparta passed away at 10:35 PM, Wednesday, April 18, 2018, at the Sparta Community Hospital.
Myron was born on August 10, 1927, in Sparta the son of Rudolph and Blanche (Blackwell) Sykes. He married Ione E. Hirte on August 10, 1946 in Sparta and they shared 71 years of marriage. He was a retired Greyhound bus driver and was a member of the Peace Lutheran Church in Steeleville and the Mason's and Shriners in Colorado.
He is survived by his wife; Ione E. Sykes, of Sparta, 2 children; Michael (Diane) Sykes, of Sparta, Suzan (Richard) DeQuasie, of Bethalto, Illinois. Myron is also survived by 3 grandchildren, and 7 great grandchildren.
Mr. Sykes was preceded in death by his parents, 1 infant sister, and 1 brother; Harold Sykes.
Funeral services will be held at 11 AM, Monday, April 23, 2018, at the Peace Lutheran Church in Steeleville with Rev. S. Blake Duncan officiating, burial will follow at Peace Lutheran Cemetery, Steeleville. Visitation will be on Monday morning at the church where friends may call from 10 to 11 AM. Memorials may be made to Peace Lutheran Church. Wilson's Funeral Home in Steeleville has been entrusted with the arrangements.
