STEELEVILLE – Minnie Catherine Mayer, 85, passed away on Friday, December 27, 2024, at her home in Steeleville, Illinois.

Catherine was born on November 22, 1939, in Campbell Hill, IL, the daughter of Arnold and Anna (Higgerson) Salger. She married Maurice W. Mayer on December 23, 1960, at St. Peter's Lutheran Church, Campbell Hill, IL. Catherine was a homemaker and a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Wine Hill. Catherine was baptized, confirmed, and lived her life in the Lutheran faith. Her greatest trait was her love for her family and cats. Catherine encouraged everyone to do their best and often said "Nothing ventured, nothing gained." Wife, Mom, Grandma, Great Grandma, Sister, Aunt and Friend; She will be dearly missed.

Catherine is survived by her husband Maurice W. Mayer of Steeleville, her children: Judy (Leland) Wolters of Steeleville, Shirley Castle of Carbondale; her grandchildren: Luis Wolters, Lizzy and Robbie Knop, Sarah Morrison, Julia Castle; her great grandchildren: Alex and Annie Knop; her siblings: Alma June Knop of Perryville, MO, Junior (Carolyn) Salger of Salem, IL, Loretta Baiter of Farina, IL; and several nieces and nephews.

Catherine was preceded in death by her parents, a son-in-law Donald Castle, a grandson-in-law Blake Morrison, four brothers: Bill, George, Harry, and Willard; and two sisters: Evelyn Carstens and Anita Mayer.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, January 2, 2025, 1:00 pm, at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Wine Hill, Steeleville, IL, with Rev. Mark Sedwick officiating. Burial to follow at St. Paul's Lutheran Cemetery, Steeleville, IL. Visitation will be Thursday, where friends may call from 11:00 until time of service at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Paul's Lutheran Church "Art work" or Randolph County Humane Society and can be mailed to Wilson's Funeral Home, P.O. Box 217, Steeleville, IL 62288.
