VERGENNES – Michael A. Smith, 77, passed away on Tuesday, October 27, 2026, at his home in Vergennes, Illinois.

Michael was born on July 11, 1949, in Murphysboro, IL, to Robert Henry and Mary (Shook) Smith. He married Sherry Parrish on January 31, 1970, at Methodist Church, Vergennes, IL. She preceded him in death on December 15, 2004. Michael was a Veteran of the U.S. Air Force, having served during the Vietnam Conflict. He was a retired Carpenter and a member of Christ Community Church, Murphysboro, IL 62966.

Michael is survived by his children: Tracie (Chris) Roseme of Vergennes, IL, Cathy Macke of Vergennes, IL; his grandchildren: Rashea Smith, Nicole (Travis) Rood, Aaron Roseme, Molly (Phil) Pirjok, Sidney (Kasey) Macke; his great grandchildren: Bradley Johnson, Emily Johnson, Gracie Smith, Andrew Pirjok, Memphis Pirjok, Emersyn Macke, Jagger Macke, Evie Spencer, and Hendrix Spencer.

Michael was also preceded in death by his mother, his brothers: Fred Howard Smith and Robert Wayne Smith.

Michael’s wishes were for Cremation and a Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.
