MURPHYSBORO – Michael W. "Hunker" Herron, 72, passed away on Wednesday, July 19, 2023, at Fairview Rehabilitation and Healthcare, DuQuoin, IL.

Michael was born on January 18, 1951, the son of Ralph and Catherine (Hagen) Herron. He married Virginia Smith on October 2, 1992, in Jackson County, IL. Michael was a retired janitor for Murphysboro School District #186. He was a member of the Murphysboro Elks, Carbon Lake, Murphysboro, IL, and Son's of American Legion - Paul Stout Post #127, Murphysboro, IL.

Michael is survived by his wife, Virginia Herron of Murphysboro, IL, his son, Danny (Amy) Gould of Murphysboro, IL, his grandchildren: Cody (Ashley) Gould, Cole (Ryley) Gould, Rogie Davis, Tug Gould; his great grandchildren: Gannon Gould, Cade Gould, Jett Davis; and his sister, Marilyn Daniel of Carbondale, IL.

Michael was preceded in death by his parents, and one son, Gary Gould.

Funeral services will be held on Monday, July 24, 2023, at 12:00 pm, at Wilson's Funeral Home, Ava, IL, with Tom Smith and Jeff Carter officiating. Burial will follow at Pleasant Grove Memorial Park, Murphysboro, IL. Visitation will be at Wilson's Funeral Home, Ava, IL, where friends may call from 10:00 to 12:00 pm.
