STEELEVILLE - Michael Burns, 72, of Steeleville, passed away at 7:24 am, Thursday, February 13, 2026, at Sparta Community Hospital, Sparta, Illinois.
Michael was born on July 24, 1953, in Sparta, Illinois, the son of Lee and Edith Henrici Burns. He married Michele Fricke on August 14, 1982 at the Rockwood Presbyterian Church, Rockwood, Illinois. Michael was a Grain Manager at Gilster Mary Lee in Steeleville, Illinois. He was a member of Pleasant Ridge Church, Rockwood. Michael loved spending time with grandchildren, playing games and doing puzzles. He enjoyed taking time to work and enjoy his cattle. He spent several years participating in the Bowling League in Sparta. He had a great love for his Chevy Camaro.
Michael is survived by his wife, Michele Burns of Steeleville; children, Michael (Tricia) Burns, Jr. of DeSoto, IL, Joshua E. (Elysia Iwao) Burns of Herrin, IL, and Jessica Burns of Chester, IL; grandchildren, Hayden, Wyatt, Edie, Alekzander, Audrey, and Alayna; brothers and sisters, DeWayne C. (Debra) Burns of Coulterville, Judith Burns of Coulterville, Dennis (Rose) Burns of Coulterville, Brenda Sue Burns of Broken Arrow, OK, and Brian Burns of Coulterville; and several nieces and nephews.
Michael was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Larry Burns; and one brother-in-law, Eddie Fricke, Jr.; and one sister-in-law, Gina Fricke.
Funeral service will be held on Tuesday, February 17, 2026, at 11:00 am, at Wilson's Funeral Home, Steeleville, with Rev. Thomas Klausing officiating. Burial will follow at Caledonia Cemetery, Sparta. Visitation will be at Wilson's Funeral Home, Steeleville, where friends may call on Monday from 6 pm until 8 pm, then on Tuesday from 7:30 am until the hour of service. Memorials may be given to the Disabled American Veterans.
