CUTLER - Melvin W. "Raydo" Smith, 77, of Cutler, passed away at 8:55 am, Sunday, September 21, 2014, at his home in Cutler, Illinois. Melvin was born in Cutler, Illinois on October 24, 1936, the son of Albert J. and Ollie I. Moore Smith. He married Alice Dunn on August 20, 1966 in Jamestown, Illinois. Melvin was a retired carpenter. He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Cutler. Melvin is survived by his wife, Alice Smith of Cutler; 14 children, Georgia Wilson of New Athens, IL, Mike Smith of Collinsville, IL, Melvin W. Smith, Jr. of Collinsville, IL, Derrick Smith of Tamaroa, IL, Michele Moon of Cutler, Marie Reynolds of Grand Junction, CO, Jackie Smith of Pinckneyville, IL, Clinton Smith of Cutler, Betty Compton of Willisville, IL, Dawn Wilson of Eldon, MO, Jeanetta Venus of Cutler, Melvin Venus of Sparta, Leslie Venus of Percy, IL, and Tonya Smith of Godfrey, IL; 34 grandchildren; several great grandchildren; three brothers, Bob Smith of Cutler, IL, Ken Smith of Cutler, IL, John Smith of Percy, IL; and two sisters, Carol Lively of Campbell Hill, IL and Pat Briley of Cutler, IL. Preceded in death by his Parents; five siblings, Ora, Midge, Albert, Nellie, Sammie Joe; and two grandchildren. Funeral service will be held at 11:00 am, Thursday, September 25, 2014 at the First Baptist Church in Cutler with Rev. Floyd Hendrix officiating. Burial will follow in Cutler Cemetery. Visitation will be at Wilson's Funeral Home, Steeleville, where friends may call from 5 pm until 8 pm Wednesday and on Thursday from 7:30 am until 9 am then from 10 am until 11 am at the church. Memorials may be given to a Love Fund for the Family.
