STEELEVILLE, Melissa M. Sauerwein, 41, of Steeleville, passed away at 10:38 PM Thursday, July 18, 2013, in rural Steeleville, Illinois. She was born August 1, 1971 in Sparta, Illinois the daughter of Glenn R and Mary Lynn (Hampton) Gerlach. Melissa was a Psych Administrator at Menard Penitentiary in Chester, IL. She was a member of Peace Lutheran Church in Steeleville. Melissa was also a member of the Seeds of Steeleville, Steeleville Eagles Auxiliary, a Girl Scout Leader and a Softball Coach. She is survived by her parents: Glenn R and Mary Lynn (Hampton) Gerlach, Steeleville, IL; 2 daughters: Alexis and Alayna Sauerwein, Steeleville, IL; 2 brothers: Garrett (special friend Mike) Gerlach, St. Louis, MO and Andy (Ali) Gerlach, Steeleville, IL. Melissa is also survived by her maternal Grandmother, Ruth Hampton of Chester and a niece and nephew, Chloe and Drew Gerlach of Steeleville. Melissa is preceded in death by her paternal Grandparents and maternal Grandfather. Funeral services will be held Monday, July 22, 2013 at 10:00 AM at Peace Lutheran Church Steeleville, Illinois with Rev. S. Blake Duncan officiating. Burial will follow at Paradise Cemetery, Steeleville, IL. Visitation will be Sunday at the Peace Lutheran Church in Steeleville where friends may call from 4 to 8pm and on Monday from 8 to 10am. Memorials may be made to Peace Lutheran All-Stars or Peace Lutheran Youth Group.
