STEELEVILLE – Maurice Rushing, 78, of Steeleville passed away at 7:16 PM, Wednesday, January 17, 2018, at the St. Frances Medical Center in Cape Girardeau, Missouri.
Maurice was born on February 23, 1939, in Willisville, the son of Orval and Ernstine (Jenkel) Rushing. He married Leola G. Ritter on September 4, 1959, in Pinckneyville and they shared 58 years of marriage. Mr. Rushing a retired coal miner from the Captain Mine, and he was a member of the Steeleville Baptist Church. He was an avid fisherman and loved spending time with his grandchildren.
Maurice is survived by his wife; Leola Rushing, of Steeleville, children; Lana (Ron) Mayer, of Cape Girardeau, Missouri, Jeff (Angela) Rushing, of Steeleville, 3 grandchildren; Rachel Besara, Jairus Mayer, and Eli Rushing, 3 great grandchildren; Evan, Sasha, and Eliana. He is also survived by 1 sister; Phyllis Scherle, of Martinsville, Indiana, and 2 brothers; Larry Rushing, of Pinckneyville, and Ira D. Rushing, of Pinckneyville.
Mr. Rushing was preceded in death by his parents, and 1 brother; Marion.
Funeral services will be held at 2 PM, Sunday, January 21, 2018, at the Steeleville Baptist Church, with Rev. Dr. Scott Foshie officiating, burial will follow at Mueller Hill Cemetery, Pinckneyville. Visitation will be held on Saturday evening at the Steeleville Baptist Church where friends may call from 6 to 8 PM, and then on Sunday from 1 to 2 PM at the church. Memorials may be made to Steeleville Baptist Church, Brotherly Love Fund-Supporting area families, and Parkinson's disease. Wilson's Funeral Home in Steeleville has been entrusted with the arrangements.
