SPARTA - Mary Carolyn Threlkeld, 71, of Sparta, IL, passed away Monday morning, June 8, 2020, at Randolph County Care Center. She was born to Lee and Violet Gerlach in Sparta on April 2, 1949. Mary was a faithful member of Steeleville Baptist Church.

Mary loved visiting with her friends, coming to church, gardening, animals, singing, and Bible study. She won many awards for her entries at the Du Quoin State Fair each year and visited the Steeleville Farmer's Market whenever she could. She was especially appreciative of her friends in the communities where she lived, including the staff at Randolph County Care Center in Sparta and at The Manor at Craig Farms in Chester, who thoughtfully cared for her in many ways.

Friends are invited to come to a Celebration of Life service for Mary at Steeleville Baptist Church on Saturday, June 20, at 2 PM. Pastors Matt Collins and Scott Foshie will officiate.

In lieu of flowers, family and friends are encouraged to give to a Memorial Fund to help with funeral expenses. Donations can be received at Wilson Funeral Home or at Steeleville Baptist Church.
