AVINGER, TEXAS – Mary Sue Johson, 85, of Avinger, Texas, passed away at 4:36 am, Saturday, December 20, 2025, at Three Springs Lodge in Chester, Illinois.
Mary Sue was born in Flora, Illinois, on August 26, 1940, the daughter of Stephen and Goldie (Perry) Stokely. She married Donald Lee Johnson on March 11, 1961, in First Methodist Church, Salem, Illinois. They were married for 56 years, before he preceded her in death. She was an Administrative Secretary for American Airlines in Chicago, then returned back to the work force as a Paraprofessional in School District #230 in Orland Park, Illinois until she retired. After retiring early, Mary Sue and Don started an adventure in Texas, building a lake home where Mary Sue could enjoy sewing and pontoon rides on the lake. She enjoyed camping with family and friends around the country. Mary Sue was a member of the Liberty Church in Jefferson, Texas.
Mary is survived by daughters, Kristi (Tony) Williams and Karri Johnson (life partner, Jim); granddaughter, Peyton Williams (Fiancee, Bailey Gourley); sister-in-law, Myrna Stokely; niece, Sara Stokley; nephew, Steven (Jill) Stokely; niece, Katherine (Jim) Gross; and many fond family and loves ones in Avinger, Texas.
Mary was also preceded in death by her Parents; brother, William Stokley and James (Shirley) Johnson.
Mary's wishes were to be cremated and interment will follow in the Springs in Mendota, Illinois with her loving husband.
