STEELEVILLE, Marvin A. Gielow, 75, of Steeleville, passed away peacefully at 5:10 PM Friday, August 4, 2017, at his home surrounded by his loving family.  He was born April 23, 1942 in Sparta to Albert and Ella (Rinne) Gielow.  Marvin married Janet M. Rubach on October 10, 1964.

During the Vietnam War, Marvin served 5 years in the Army reserves and Air Force active duty.

In 1958, Marvin began his career in mechanics when he started working for John Deere.  He then transitioned into coal mining at the Captain Mine as a master mechanic, then Knight Hawk Coal, running the Tamrock drill until he retired in 2006.

Marvin was a member of Peace Lutheran Church in Steeleville.  He was also a former member of BBK America Legion Post #480 in Steeleville.  He enjoyed bowling, fishing and hunting.  He enjoyed being outdoors and working with his vineyards and making wine.

He is survived by his: wife: Janet M. Gielow, son, Matthew Gielow, daughter, Kira Gielow and fiance`, Adam Fagan; brothers, Vernon (Vivian) Gielow, brother in law, David (Bonita) Rubach and 8 nieces and nephews; cousins, Gene Rowton, Marion Ferhenkemp and Doris Tegtmeyer.

Marvin is preceded in death by his parents, in-laws, Elmer and Marcella Rubach and sister in law, Ruth (Rubach) Lekosky.

Funeral services will be held Monday, August 7, 2017 at 11:00 AM at Peace Lutheran Church Steeleville, with Rev. S. Blake Duncan officiating.  Burial will follow at Peace Lutheran Cemetery, Steeleville.  Visitation will be at Peace Lutheran Church on Sunday from 3:00 PM to 7:00 PM and on Monday from 9 to 11AM. Memorials may be made to Peace Lutheran Memorial Fund, Chester Memorial Hospital Infusion Department or Hospice of Southern Illinois.
