PERCY - Marguerite L. Helfers, 93, of Percy, passed away at 8:48 am, Thursday, February 12, 2015 at home in Percy. Marguerite was born in Tilden, Illinois on January 8, 1922, the daughter of Franco E. and Sophia McMillan Loyd. She married Walter F. Helfers on September 4, 1937 in Perryville, Missouri. He preceded her in death on June 19, 1971. Marguerite was retired from Gilster-Mary Lee Corp and was a member of the Gospel Assembly in DuQuoin, Illinois. Marguerite is survived by two daughters, Carol Bilderback of Percy and Thelma Short of New Athens, IL; grandchildren, Gwenith (John) Podeschi, Kenneth Bilderback, Laurel (Stanley) Ruhmann, Paula (Clint) Gurley, Sandra Houston-Davis (Christopher Davis), Michelle (Nathan) Forrester, Henry Helfers, Jr.; 14 great grandchildren; 22 great great grandchildren; one step great grandchild; two sisters, Elizabeth Bruns of DuQuoin and Luella Woolford of DuQuoin; and numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews. Marguerite was also preceded in death by her Parents; one son, Henry Helfers; one grandson, Jeffrey Short; two great grandchildren; two sons-in-law, John Bilderback and Billy Short; two sisters; and three brothers. Funeral service will be held at 1:00 pm, Saturday, February 14, 2015 at the Wilson's Funeral Home in Percy with Rev. Gaylen Holden officiating. Burial will follow in Percy Village Cemetery. Visitation will be at Wilson's Funeral Home, Percy, on Saturday from 10 am until 1 pm. Memorials may be given to Hospice of Southern Illinois.
