STEELEVILLE – Margaret Anne Witbart, 85, of Steeleville, passed away on Monday, August 31, 2020 at St. Joseph Memorial Hospital in Murphysboro, Illinois.
Anne was born on November 23, 1934 in Percy, Illinois, the daughter of Clemens H. and Wilma Boyd Meyerhoff. She married Richard W. "Butch" Witbart on June 23, 1957 at Wesley United Methodist Church in Percy, Illinois. He preceded her in death on August 24, 2015. Anne worked as a homemaker and secretary for Consolidation Coal Company and the Randolph County Circuit Clerk's Office. She was a member of Wesley United Methodist Church in Percy, Illinois. Anne was the past president and an active member of BBK American Legion Auxiliary Post #480 since 1970. She enjoyed quilting at the Methodist Church and spending time with her family.
Anne is survived by her daughters; Jennifer (Eddy) Howell of Murphysboro, Illinois and Allisen (Brian) Thies of Cutler, Illinois. Six grandchildren; Shayne (Emily) Howell of Herrin, Illinois, Wesley Howell and Aya Baligod of Murphysboro, Illinois, Tyler Howell and Courtney Crafton of Murphysboro, Illinois, Drew (Hannah) Howell of Herrin, Illinois, Rachel Thies of Steeleville, Illinois and Katelyn Thies of Cutler, Illinois. Nine great grandchildren; Hayden, Norah, Kobe, Grayson, Alex, Logan, Annie, Solana, and Marek. Sister, Jane Kuhnert of Cutler, Illinois. Nephews; Bruce (Marcia) Witbart, Craig (Judy) Witbart, and Monte (Kristie) Kuhnert.
Anne was also preceded in death by her parents and infant son.
Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, private graveside services will be held at Peace Lutheran Cemetery in Steeleville, with Reverend James Tinzmann officiating. Burial will follow. Memorials may be given to Residential Hospice or Wesley United Methodist Church, Percy.
