STEELEVILLE – Margaret McDowell, 98, of Steeleville, passed away at 7:52 PM, Thursday, December 7, 2017, at the Three Springs Lodge in Chester.
Margaret was born on May 4, 1919 in Godfrey, Illinois, the daughter of Henry and Mary (Schmidt) Korte. She was a retired seamstress, and attended church at the St. Mary's Catholic Church in Chester and was a member of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Catholic Church in Herrin.
Mrs. McDowell is survived by a son – in – law; Ralph D. Hill, of Steeleville, 3 grandchildren; Lesile and Bonnie Hill, Dale and Barbara Hill, and Leah Hammel and Kevin Kaiser, great grandchildren; Deanna Hill, Brittany Ellis, Lindsay Hammel (Brendan Parker), Kyle Hill, Nicole Green, and Shane Carter, and 2 great great grandchildren; Vance Ellis, and Taylor Hill (Terry Kollhauss), she is also survived by a nephew; Richard and Sharon Misuraca.
Margaret was preceded in death by her parents, husband, daughter; Arlene, son; Bert Henry Wells, sister; Virginia Misuraca, and 1 great grandson; Ferron.
Memorial mass will be held at 10 AM, Monday, December 18, 2017, at the St. Mary's Catholic Church in Chester, with Father Eugene H. Wojcik, V.F., officiating and burial will follow at the Miner's Cemetery, Royalton. Memorials may be made to the masses. Wilson's Funeral Home in Steeleville is entrusted with the arrangements.
