Obituary

MURPHYSBORO - Lynda Lou Ziegler, 85, of Murphysboro, IL passed away Tuesday, April 30th at home surrounded by her husband and children.

She was born in Sand Ridge, IL to Russell & Mary (Ticer) Geiger on April 2nd, 1939.  She married Harry Ziegler on March 27th, 1998 at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Murphysboro. Harry and Lynda recently celebrated twenty-six years of marriage and 41 years together.

Her Children are Dale Ray (Sherri) Schimpf, Jodi Champion, Juli (Shawn) Donahue, & Jay (Melba) Ziegler; Grandchildren Atlee Champion, Mabree (Cole) Champion-Henderson, Carleigh (Jacob) Wright, Brady Donahue, Kristin (Ben) Reiman, Taylor (Marcus) Costa, Stephanie Jines, & Sarah (Kameron) Decker;  Great Grandchildren Marcus Costa Jr., Maverick Costa, Graham Reiman, & Kobiela Reiman.

What brought her the greatest joy was spending time with her children and grandchildren.  She was an ever-present fan and cheerleader at all their sporting events and activities. Lynda retired from MHS where she worked as the front office secretary and is fondly remembered as Ms. Schimpf by many.  She was a loving presence behind the front desk and a mother figure to many students throughout the years.

In her retirement she spent many years playing in golf tournaments with her best friend, Marlys Wolf, and loved recounting their performance shot-by-shot to all of us. In recent years she enjoyed singing in the choir as the alto harmonizer at Our Savior Lutheran Church and attending the Ladies' luncheons. Lynda was the #1 customer at Gloria Jeans and even had her own mug that she would use each day after she walked the mall. If you knew her, you knew she was an avid reader with a love for murder mysteries.

Besides her Husband, Children, Grand & Great Grandchildren Lynda is survived by her brother Nate (Cindy) Geiger, sisters-in-law Wilma "Dink" Geiger & Lyn (Geiger) Stephens, brother-in-law John McLaughlin, and many beloved nieces & nephews.

Lynda was preceded in death by her parents Russell & Mary Geiger, sister Margie McLaughlin, brothers William "Bud" & Gary Merle Geiger, nephews Cory & Gary Wayne Geiger.
