Obituary

WILLISVILLE – Lonnie R. Fulkerson, 82, passed away Wednesday, May 13, 2026, at Barnes Jewish Hospital, St. Louis, Missouri.

Lonnie was born on December 11, 1943, in Rockport, KY, to John Douglas and Mildred Fulkerson. He married Neva Maddox on July 12, 1963, at Lone Star Central Baptist Church, Centertown, KY. Lonnie was a retired Coal Miner and Foreman for Peabody Coal Company and Arch of Illinois. He was a member of New Hope Independent Baptist Church, Willisville, IL, where he was a Decon for many years, and also served on various church committees. Lonnie was an avid Nascar racing fan.

Lonnie is survived by his wife, Neva Fulkerson of Willisville, IL, his son, Mike Fulkerson of Baldwin, IL, his grandchildren: Justin Fulkerson, Cory (Holly) Fulkerson, Alex Fulkerson; his great grandchildren: Taytum Fulkerson and Rylix Fulkerson; and his sister, Jackie Hiens of Louisville, KY.

Lonnie was preceded by his parents, his son, Timothy N. Fulkerson, and his brother, Roy Fulkerson.

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, May 19, 2026, 11:00 am, at New Hope Independent Baptist Church, Willisville, IL, with Rev. Byan Jeffries officiating. Burial to follow at New Hope Gardens, Willisville, IL. Visitation will be Monday evening, May 18, 2026, where friends may call from 6:00 – 8:00 pm, at Wilson’s Funeral Home, Steeleville, IL, and then on Tuesday morning, May 19, 2026, 10:00 am until time of service at the church. Memorials may be given to New Hope Independent Baptist Church, and can be mail to Wilson’s Funeral Home, P.O. Box 217, Steeleville, IL 62288.
