SPARTA – Lisa, 66 of Sparta, lost her courageous battle with ovarian cancer, Friday, May 25, 2018 at 11:05 pm.
Lisa Ann Luthy was born in Sparta on February 25, 1952, the daughter of John L. and Betty J. (Gallagher) Luthy. She, along with her brother Bruce, was raised on a farm a few miles north of Sparta where the World Shooting & Recreational Complex is now located. Lisa graduated Sparta Schools and in 1974 graduated The University of Illinois with a Bachelor's of Science in Biology and again in 1975 with a Master's in Education. She was a member of Alpha Phi sorority. She married her high school sweetheart, Scott F Linders in Sparta, on March 22, 1975. He survives.
Lisa taught Biology and Advanced Biology at Sparta High School from 1975 until 1984, where she also coached girls varsity basketball. She was known with affection as "Lady" by her players. From 1980 until 2002 she was owner/operator, with her husband, of McDonald's restaurants in Sparta, Nashville and Pinckneyville. Beginning in 2006 and currently, she and Scott, own and operate "Twice the Ice" ice machines in Sparta, Chester and Red Bud. Lisa was a member of Westminster Presbyterian Church, Sparta. She was also an avid golfer and was ladies club champion at Sparta Country Club for two consecutive years.
Lisa is survived by her husband, Scott Linders of Sparta; son, Cliff Luthy Linders of Effingham, IL; Mother, Betty G. Luthy of Sparta; brother, Bruce (Paula) Luthy, Sr. of Chester; mother-in-law, Beryl A. Linders of Sparta; brother-in-law Blake (Laura) Linders of Effingham; sisters-in-law, Tamara Linders of Sparta and Christy Linders of Manhattan, KS; and several nieces and nephews.
Lisa was preceded in death by her son, Neil Scott Linders; her father, John Lloyd Luthy; father-in-law, Dr. R.E. Linders and brother-in-law, Clark E Linders.
Funeral service will be held at 11:00 am, Thursday, May 31, 2018 at Westminster Presbyterian Church, Sparta with Pastor Bob Miner officiating. Burial will follow at Caledonia Cemetery, Sparta. Visitation will be at the church on Wednesday from 5 pm until 8 pm and on Thursday from 9 am until 11 am. In lieu of flowers Lisa, Scott and Cliff request memorials be made to Sparta Area Food Pantry at Westminster Presbyterian Church. Wilson's Funeral Home in Steeleville has been entrusted with the arrangements.
