STEELEVILLE – Lillian A. Haberman, 105, of Steeleville, passed away, Monday, January 11, 2021 at Three Springs Lodge in Chester, IL.
Lil was born December 28, 1915 in Percy, IL, to Martin and Minnie (Gramenz) Bruns. Lil was confirmed at St. Mark's Lutheran Church, Steeleville, April 30, 1930. She married Elmer Haberman at St. Mark's Lutheran Church on September 6, 1936 and they shared 58 years of marriage until his passing on May 13, 1994.
Lil worked at the International Shoe Factory and after marriage she was a farmer's wife. She drove tractors, helped plant and harvest crops and tended her garden. Her favorite chore on the farm was milking those 36 cow's morning and evening; she loved her Holstein cows.
Lil was a wonderful, caring, and compassionate mother to her two children, Larry William, and Judith Ann. She loved God and was a dedicated member of Peace Lutheran Church, Steeleville, where she taught Sunday School, was a member of WELCA, worked in the Food Pantry, helped with Wednesday All-Starts and was chairwoman of the kitchen crew for funeral dinners. Lil was active well into her 90's, finally giving up her riding lawn mower at 97 and driving her car at 98.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Elmer Haberman, son & daughter-in-law Larry W., and Colleen Haberman, sister Edna Miller and nephew Don Miller.
Lil is survived by her daughter, Judith Ann (Jerry) Wilson of Steeleville; daughter-in-law, Peggy Haberman; grandchildren, Alan D. (Christal) Haberman of Sparta, Steven W. (Heather) Haberman of St. Paul, TX, Debra S. (Brian) Meyer of Red Bud and Jennifer A. Wilson of Steeleville; great-grandchildren, Jake W. Haberman, Josie L. Haberman, Faith D. Haberman, Alyssa C. Haberman, Brody W. Haberman, Lillian C. Meyer and Layla R. Meyer; nieces, Janet (Don) Crane and Mary (Mike) Tuerck; special friend David Rieckenberg.
Private family services are being held with a graveside service at 11:45 am, at Peace Lutheran Cemetery, Steeleville, IL with Reverend Matt Helfrich and Parrish Assistant Minister Julie Posth officiating. Burial to follow. Family services will be broadcasted on FM101.7 for anyone wanting to sit in their car at Peace Lutheran Church. Memorials may be given to the Peace Lutheran Perpetual Care Fund and can be mailed to Wilson Funeral Home, P.O. Box 217, Steeleville, IL 62288.
