Obituary

JACOB – Leonora A. Vogel, 100, of Jacob, passed away at 5:26 pm, on Tuesday, October 20, 2020, at Integrity Rehab and Nursing Center in Carbondale.

She was born Tuesday, December 30, 1919, in Jacob, Illinois, the daughter of Gustav C. and Eleanore C.W. (Reinkensmeyer) Vogel.  She was baptized into the Christian faith on January 18, 1920 and confirmed on April 9, 1933 at Christ Lutheran Church.  She graduated from Gorham High School in 1938.  When her mother passed in 1943, she and two other sisters took care of the household and three younger siblings.  She also cared for her father until his death at 101.  She was a Homemaker and an avid Gardener.  Leonora was a past member of Jackson County Home Extension, Dorcas Society, Lutheran Women's Missionary League, Hospice Volunteer and Sunday School teacher.

Leonora is survived by one sister Juanita Hollmann, Fairview Heights, IL; one brother Harold Vogel, Atlanta, GA; two sisters-in-law, Ruth Vogel of Jacob, IL and Ernestine Vogel of Atlanta, GA; nephews, Ronald Bock, Wayne Bock, Larry Vogel, Donald Scheiderer, Philip Vogel, and Mark Hollmann; nieces, Connie Mattingly, Elaine Lueders, Jan Smith, Marianne Sievers, and Amy Miller; dear friends, Ruby Hartje, Maggie Eckert, and long time pen pal, Mary Habberly of Wales, U.K.

Leonora was preceded in death by her Parents; two brothers, Vincent Vogel, and Charles Vogel; two sisters, Adeline Bock and Regeta Scheiderer; and one nephew, Lyle Vogel.

The family wishes to express our heartfelt appreciation for the compassionate care for her at Integrity Rehab and Nursing facilities at Carbondale, Columbia, and Chester.

Private funeral service will be held at 1:00 pm, Saturday, October 24, 2020, at Christ Lutheran Church, Jacob, with Rev. Mike Kettner officiating.  Burial will follow at Christ Lutheran Cemetery.  A walk through will be on Saturday from Noon until 1 pm.  By executive orders, facemask and social distancing guidelines will be required.  Memorials may be given to Christ Lutheran Church or Christ Lutheran School.
