STEELEVILLE – Leonard "Earl" Rapp, 103, of Steeleville, passed away at 11:01 pm, Sunday, August 14, 2016 at Three Springs Lodge in Chester.
Leonard was born in Galatia, Illinois, on April 2, 1913, the son of John W. and Dana E. Steinsultz Rapp. He married Anna Belle McPherson on February 14, 1941 at Jackson, Missouri. She preceded him in death on February 14, 2001. He was a school teacher for 32 years and retired from the Steeleville School District. Leonard was a US Army veteran of WWII, having served from February 24, 1941 to November 9, 1945. He was a member of the Methodist Church in Steeleville, B.B.K. American Legion Post #480 in Steeleville, and I.O.O.F. Life member since October 12, 1940.
Leonard is survived by his son, Donald (Brenda) Rapp of Pinckneyville, IL; his daughter, Mary Ann (Bill) Chumbley of Trenton, MO; one granddaughter, Afton Prest (Warren Thomas); three step grandsons, Derek (Amy) Cleland, Brett Cleland and Dr. Ryan (Amanda) Cleland; five step great grandchildren, Chloe Yates, Logan Cleland, Brayden Cleland, Kendall Cleland and Collins Cleland.
He was also preceded in death by his Parents and one sister.
Memorial service will be held at 7:00 pm, Friday, August 19, 2016 at Wilson's Funeral Home in Steeleville with Rev. Marvin "Bud" Bennett officiating. Burial will be in Percy Village Cemetery, Percy, Illinois. Visitation will be at Wilson's Funeral Home, Steeleville, where friends may call from 5 pm until 7 pm Friday. Memorials may be given to the United Methodist Church.
