ROCKWOOD, Leona J. Heins, 89, of Rockwood, passed away at 10:00pm at her daughter's home in Ballwin, Mo on July 18, 2013. Leona was born on September 9, 1923 in Neunert, IL to Paul and Clara (Hassebrock) Twenhafel. She worked in St. Louis, MO and Chester, IL in her early years. On July 24, 1948 she married Harry L. Heins at Christ Lutheran Church in Jacob, IL. Harry passed away on October 7, 2000. Leona was a lifetime member of Christ Lutheran Church in Jacob, IL. She was very active in Christ Lutheran Church and school activities such as Dorcas Society and PTO. For the last 7 years she lived with her daughter in Ballwin, MO and led a very happy and productive life. Leona loved nature, gardening and flowers and was proud to be a farmer's wife. She also enjoyed cooking for everyone and was known for her special smile and her kindness. Leona was blessed with 2 sons and a daughter: Carl (Ruby) Heins, Rockwood,IL; David (Mindy) Heins, Rockwood, IL and Nancy (Peter) Nettling, Ballwin, MO. Grandchildren: Karla Heins, St. Louis, MO; Brad ( Brandi) Heins, Scott (Lynn) and Neil Heins of Rockwood; Pierce and Meredith Nettling, Ballwin, MO; Chase and Hayleigh Heins, Rockwood; 5 Great Grandchildren: Brady, Brock, Brydon, Kaylin and Julie. She is also survived by 4 brothers: Martin (Katherine) Twenhafel,Gorham, IL; Ralph (Edris) Twenhafel, Springfield, IL, Orval (Brenda) Twenhafel, Murphysboro, IL and Clarence (Ruby) Twenhafel, Hillsboro, Oregon. Leona was preceded in death by her parents and husband. Funeral services will be held at 11:00am on Tuesday July 23, 2013 at the Christ Lutheran Church in Jacob, IL with the Rev. Mike Kettner and Rev. Rick Twenhafel officiating. Burial will follow at Christ Lutheran Cemetery. Visitation will be at the Wilson's Funeral Home in Ava where friends may call from 4 to 8pm Monday and on Tuesday from 9 to 11am at the Church. Memorials may be given to Christ Lutheran Church or donor's choice
