Obituary

AVA – Leland Froemling, 68, passed away on Wednesday, November 13, 2024, at his home in Ava, Illinois.

Leland was born on August 27, 1956, in Murphysboro, IL, the son of Albert H. and Mabel C. (Nagel) Froemling. He married Barbara Bethke on March 23, 1985, at Grace Lutheran Church, Elgin, TX. Leland was a Member of St. Luke Lutheran Church, Campbell Hill, IL.

Leland had been given a talent that was like no other when it came to carpentry skills. He could take a piece of wood and turn it into a piece of artwork that was just beautiful. He was a carpenter for over 45 years and was a proud member of Chester Local 1361 until it closed then a member of Freeburg Local 662. Leland enjoyed meeting with the rest of the retirees every quarter. In his younger days he liked to go hunting for rabbits and squirrels. He always enjoyed the annual making of summer sausage and pork sausage with his buddies.

If anybody knew Leland, he may not have been the first one to your function or party but you could always count on Leland to be the last one to leave. He enjoyed taking Barbara to her barrel races and chatting with everyone there and of course meeting new people. Leland was active in the Campbell Hill Volunteer Fire Department and was even at one time on the First Bank of Campbell Hill Bowling Team.

Leland is survived by his wife, Barbara Froemling of Ava, IL, sister, Nancy (Jim) Powles of Ava, IL, mother-in-law, Linda Bethke, sister-in-law, Linda (Darwin) Misselhorn, nephews: Matthew (Melissa) Misselhorn, Ryan (Jill) Powles; nieces: Stacy (Marvin) Ehlers, Rebecca (Casey) Clawson, Hannah Misselhorn; great nephews: Brady Bess, Jack, Max and Nolan Powles; and a great niece, Presley Clawson.

Leland was preceded in death by his parents, father-in-law, James Bethke, and many friends and relatives.
