STEELEVILLE – Lela Mae Shemonic, 88, of Steeleville passed away at 9:55 PM, Wednesday, October 30, 2019, at the Three Springs Lodge in Chester.

Lela was born on February 11, 1931, in Chester, the daughter of Vernon and Hannah (Hapke) Eggemeyer. She married Elmer J. Shemonic on November 2, 1952, at the Peace Lutheran Church and they shared 66 years of marriage before he preceded her in death on May 26, 2019. She was a homemaker and worked with her husband Elmer operating the family business, Shemonic Brothers, for over 60 years. Lela was a member of the Peace Lutheran Church, Steeleville, BBK American Legion Auxiliary Post 480, Steeleville, and the WELCA.

Lela is survived by her children; Donald (Linda) Shemonic, of Franklin, TN, Cindy (Gary) Vaughan, of Ball Ground, GA, David (Lisa) Shemonic, of Rockwood, Christine (Eric) Brown, of Pflugerville, TX, 7 grandchildren; Amy, Kelly, Brian, Brad, Grant, Lochlan, and John, 7 great grandchildren; Collen, Brayden, Landon, Ellie, Anna, Kaden, and Lana, and 1 sister; Elaine (Dennis) McClure, of Chester.

Mrs. Shemonic was preceded in death by her parents, son; Ronald, daughter; Nancy, grandsons; Cody, Tyler, and Adam, great granddaughter; Allysa.

Funeral services will be held at 1 PM, Sunday, November 3, 2019, at the Peace Lutheran Church, Steeleville with Minister Deb Rathert and Julie Posth, officiating, burial will follow at the Peace Lutheran Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Saturday evening at the Wilson's Funeral Home, Steeleville where friends may call from 6 to 8 PM, and then on Sunday from 7:30 to 11 AM and from 12 to 1 PM, at the church. Memorials may be made to the Alzheimer's Association or Peace Lutheran Church, Memorial Fund.
