STEELEVILLE- Laverna A. Castens, 95, of Steeleville, passed away at 9:10 pm, Monday, August 31, 2015 at Coulterville Care Center in Coulterville, Illinois. Laverna was born in Bremen, Illinois on July 25, 1920, the daughter of Henry and Alma Dieckhoff Clasen. She married George W. Castens on June 20, 1942 in St. Louis, Missouri. He preceded her in death on October 5, 1981. Laverna was a homemaker and she was an Avon representative for over 50 years. She was a member of the St. Mark's Lutheran Church in Steeleville, Illinois and American Legion BBK Post #480 Auxiliary. Laverna is survived by two sons, Donald (Judith) Castens of Springfield, Illinois and Neal (Doris) Castens of Steeleville, Illinois; one son-in-law, Ed Eckart of Chester, Illinois; eight grandchildren, Tara (August) Griffin, Tacia (Nathan) Brunner, Stefanie (Keith) Davis, Danielle (Aaron) Van Fleet, Amber (Aaron) Cox, Joshua Rodewald, Josh Eckart, and Jake Eckart; eight great grandchildren, Alexa and Logan Griffin, Camden and Brynn Davis, Elijah and Claire Van Fleet, and Finley and Tayte Brunner. Laverna was preceded in death by her Parents; Daughter, Georgia Eckart; and one brother, Clarence Clasen. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am, Friday, September 4, 2015 at St. Mark's Lutheran Church with Rev. Kelly Bedard officiating. Burial will follow at Paradise Cemetery, Steeleville, Illinois. Visitation will be at St. Mark's Lutheran Church, Steeleville, Illinois, where friends may call from 9 am to 11 am on Friday, September 4, 2015. Memorials may be given to the American Cancer Society, Cardinal Glennon Children's Hospital, or St. Mark's Lutheran Church.
