Obituary

AVA, Lavern S. Carter, 86, of Trinity, TX formerly of Ava, IL, passed away on Monday, August 27, 2010, at Avalon Place Nursing Home in Trinity, TX. Lavern was born August 1, 1924 in Murphysboro, Illinois the son of Coleman Carter and Lura (Jarrett) Carter. He is survived by his son, Ricky Carter of Marion, IL; one brother: Donald and Joann Carter of Murphysboro, IL; two sisters: Evelyn McBride formerly of Ava, Ruby and George Knight of Carmi, IL; numerous nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents, one brother, Charles, and two sons, Gary and Billy. Mr. Carter served in the U.S. Navy, during the World War II from November 1941 to October 1945 and then in the U.S. Army from March of 1948 till November of 1955 during the Korean Conflict. He was a life member of the B.B.K. American Legion Post #480 of Steeleville, IL, V.F. W. Post #1301 Marion, IL, and he loved socializing in the Veteran's Club. He worked up into his eighties for Home Enterprises, installing lifeline support systems for the elderly. Memorial service will be held Tuesday, September 7, 2010 at 11:00 A.M. at Wilson's Funeral Home in Ava. Pastor George Knight will be officiating. Burial will be at Pleasant Hill Cemetery in Murphysboro, IL. Visitation will be at Wilson's Funeral Home in Ava, where friends may call from 9 to 11am on Tuesday. Memorials may be made to Pleasant Hill Cemetery.
