Obituary

PERCY - Larenz Ruebke, 78, of Percy, IL, passed away on Wednesday, February 8, 2012 at the Missouri-Baptist Medical Center, St. Louis, MO. Larenz was born June 9, 1933 in Bremen, Illinois the son of Fritz and Clara Hartman Ruebke. He married Alberta Wilson on April 13, 1952 at Peace Lutheran Church, Steeleville. Larenz was a retired business owner. He owned Ruebke Market from 1960 until 1973 when it burned. He worked at Captain Mines from 1973 to 1987 and bought L & L Liquor in 1984 and sold it in 2003. Larenz also worked at International Shoe Co., the Foundry in Sparta and American Device in Steeleville. Larenz was a US Army veteran having served from 1952 to 1955. He was a member of the Peace Lutheran Church, Steeleville and served 3 terms on the church council. He was a member of the U.M.W. of A Local #1392; Percy American Legion Post #1145, where he was the past commander; and Percy Fire Department, where he was the former Chief. Larenz was confirmed at St. John's Lutheran Church, Bremen. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and camping, and was an avid Cardinal Baseball fan. For the last 15 years, he enjoyed his evening drive looking for deer. Larenz is survived by his wife, Alberta Ruebke of Percy; three children, Larry (Kathy) Ruebke of Steeleville, Joyce (Jeff) Odean of Lexington, KY and Brian (Brenda) Ruebke of Percy; two grandsons, Bradley and Blake Ruebke; two sisters, Allene Kothe of Percy and Dorothy (Walter) Joost of Steeleville; and several nieces and nephews. Larenz was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Vernon & Edward Ruebke; and one brother-in-law, Ralph Kothe. Funeral service will be held at 3:00 pm Sunday, February 12, 2012 at the Peace Lutheran Church in Steeleville with Rev. S. Blake Duncan officiating. Burial will follow in Paradise Cemetery in Steeleville. Visitation will be at Wilson's Funeral Home, Steeleville, where friends may call from 5 to 8 pm Saturday and on Sunday from 7:30 am until 1 pm then from 2 to 3 pm at the church. Memorials may be given to Peace Lutheran Church or Family Choice.
