Obituary

Retired United States Air Force MSGT Keith D. Kohrs died unexpectedly at Sparta Community Hospital on June 13th 2015 in Sparta, IL at the age of 48. Keith is survived by his parents, Kenneth & Sarah Kohrs of Sparta, IL; Beloved wife Doreen Kohrs,; children, Kenzie & Kennedy Kohrs, Paula & Chuck Wilson of New Athens, IL, Jennifer & Jason Laut of Sparta, IL; siblings, Kathy & Ray McConachie of Chester,IL, Kelly & Melvin Coop of Walsh, IL, Kevin & Lori Kohrs of Trenton,IL. Grandchildren: Ian, Hayden, Raelynn, Marcus, Blake, Wesley, Molly, Logan. Nieces/Nephews, Kristopher & Amanda McConachie , Kacie & Brent Jones, Kelsie & Chad Buss, Klayton Coop, Nathan & Kyle Kohrs, Alexis Kohrs, Great Niece Kourtney McConachie, Great Nephew Kody McConachie. He was preceded in death by his twin brother, Kenneth D Kohrs of Sparta,IL, Sister, Stacie K Kohrs of Sparta, IL, Sister, Kim R Kohrs of Sparta,IL, Grandparents - George & Elizabeth Myers of Wood River, IL and Raymond & Marie Kohrs of Evansville, IL. Keith was born on December 07,1966 in Red Bud,IL to Kenneth & Sarah Kohrs. He graduated from Sparta High School in 1985. In 1988 Keith enlisted in the USAF where he served his country for 21 years and 6 months. He attended Airman Leadership School, NCO Academy, USAF Senior NCO Academy, Air Force Training Course, Maintenance Data Systems Analy Craftsman, Maintenance Systems Data Base, and Maintenance Data Systems Apprentice Course. During his distinguished career Keith was the recipient of Meritorious Service Medal, Air Force Commendation Medal with 4 oak leaf clusters, Air Force Achievement Medal with 1 oak leaf cluster, AF Excellence Award with 2 oak leaf clusters, AF Good Conduct Medal with 6 oak leaf clusters, National Defense Service Medal with 1 service star, Southwest Asia Service Medal with 3 service stars, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Humanitarian Service Medal, AF Overseas Ribbon Long, AF Longevity Service with 4 oak leaf cluster, USAF NCO PME Graduate Ribbon with 1 oak leaf cluster, AF Training Ribbon, Kuwait Liberation Medal Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, Kuwait Liberation Medal Government of Kuwait. Keith was dedicated to the youth of the community. He coached Little Dribblers, the Sparta High School Basketball Team, and worked with students in the Sparta School District. Keith was an individual who loved his family, especially his daughters, basketball, the St. Louis Cardinals, the Dallas Cowboys, and Dale Earnhardt, Jr. He was an active and dedicated member of the Sparta V.F.W. Post #2698, the Sparta Booster Club, the Sparta Alumni Association, and the Sparta Country Club. Those knew Keith will never forget his two favorite sayings: "That's a negative ghost rider." and "If it walks like a duck, quacks like a duck, it's a duck!" A Celebration of Life is scheduled for 10am Thursday June 18, 2015 at Our Lady of Lourdes Church, Sparta, IL with Fr. John Agbasiere officiating. Burial will follow at Caledonia Cemetery in Sparta, IL. Military graveside services will be under the auspices of the U. S. Air Force. Visitation will be at the church on Wednesday from 4pm to 8pm and from 8.30am to hour of service on Thursday. A Time of Fellowship will follow after burial, at the church. All are welcome to attend and celebrate Keith's life. In lieu of flowers, please give donations to the Wounded Warrior Project or the Randolph County Humane Society.
