Obituary

Katheryn (Katie) Rae Rosendohl-Fiene-Birchler-Heires was born March 9, 1917, in Willisville, Illinois, daughter of Henry Ray Rosendohl and Maude (Smith) Rosendohl. Baptized at age 15 at Cutler United Presbyterian Church now called Reformed Presbyterian Church of Cutler. She married George Edison (Judy) Fiene of Steeleville at St. Mark's Lutheran Church in Steeleville in 1938. They had two children, a daughter, Cassandra Rae and a son, George Kent. Edison passed away as did their son, Kent. Katheryn later married Vincent Birchler of Chester at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Chester 9/15/1979. Vincent passed away and Katheryn later married Paul A. Heires of Chester 7/27/2002. Paul passed away and Katheryn moved back to Steeleville and then to Edina, Minnesota, to be near her daughter. She was preceded in death by husbands Edison Fiene, Vincent Birchler, and Paul A. Heires, her son Kent Fiene, her parents and three sisters: Madolyn Burns, Margaret Fiene Cicka, and Norma Chase. She leaves her daughter, Cassandra (Cassy) Rodgers, daughter in-law Inez Fiene, step children John and Neil Birchler, Chris Bowles, Marty Heires, and Gene Heires, nephew Bruce Fiene, Cassy's daughter Michele, Kent's sons Nathan and Aaron, 12 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren, and 4 great-great-grandchildren. Katheryn retired from the First National Bank of Steeleville and the Sparta News-Plaindealer. She spent 59 years in journalism as a newspaper columnist, feature writer, and radio host of "Katie's Colum of the Air" on WHCO Sparta/KSGM Chester, and Ste Genevieve, MO. Katheryn was a member of the Peace Lutheran Church of Steeleville, American Legion Auxiliary of Steeleville, Randolph County Historical Society, Illinois State Historical Society (past president), Chester Women's Club, Chester Bible Study, SIU Editorial Association, Illinois Women's Press Association, and National Federation of Press Women.

Funeral Services are at Peace Lutheran Church of Steeleville on Saturday, December 30, at 1:00 PM with Rev. S. Blake Duncan officating, and burial will follow at Steeleville City Cemetery. Memorials to Peace Lutheran Church of Steeleville, Illinois. Visitaion will be held at the chruch on Saturday morning from 10 AM to 1 PM. Wilson's Funeral Home in Steeleville is entrusted with the arrangements.
