SPARTA – Karleen Byington, 82, of Sparta, passed away Thursday, February 23, 2023, at Sparta Community Hospital, Sparta, IL.

Karleen was born March 6, 1940, in Sparta, IL to Carl and Gracie (Winterbottom) Saal. She married Luther J. Byington on May 1, 1963, in Sparta, IL. He preceded her in death on August 6, 2016.  Karleen was a homemaker and of the Protestant faith.

Surviving are her children: Kendra (Brian) Beattie of Steeleville, IL, Bert Byington of Sparta, IL; her six grandchildren: Janae (Tim) Yates, Hillary (Tyler Mettler) Heaton, Kenny Heaton, Leah (Randy) Hammonds, Ellie (Rob) Kirk, Drew Byington; her eight great grandchildren, and her sister, Bonnie Cundiff of Sparta, IL.

Karleen is preceded in death by her parents, and her sister, Jean Ann Kiefer.

Visitation will be held Tuesday, February 28, 2023, from 10:00 to 11:00 am, at Wilson's Funeral Home, Steeleville, IL.

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, February 28, 2023, at 11:00 am, at Wilson's Funeral Home, Steeleville, IL, with Reverend Randy McGeehon officiating. Burial will follow at Caledonia Cemetery, Sparta, IL.
