DESOTO – Joseph Lynn Nellis, 67, of DeSoto, IL, passed away Saturday, April 16, 2022, at his home surrounded by loved ones.

Joseph was born August 29, 1954, in Carbondale, IL, to Jerome D. and Hazel J. (Sloan) Nellis. He married Martha Cargill on March 20, 1974, in Makanda, IL. Joseph was a Veteran of the U.S. Army and a licensed electrician by trade. He also was a volunteer fire fighter & first responder, certified Basic Sky Warn Spotter Trainer, professional locksmith, Haz-mat Awareness trainer, and was certified in Emergency Response to Terrorism.

Joseph is survived by his wife, Martha Nellis of DeSoto, IL, children: June Nellis of DeSoto, IL, Michelle Nellis of Desoto, IL; grandchildren: Dustin Knapp of Carbondale, IL, Jeremy Nellis of DeSoto, IL, Cheyenne Nellis of DeSoto, IL; great granddaughter, Violet Rose Nellis, siblings: Robert (Margo) Nellis of West Frankfort, IL, David (Susan) Nellis of Ava, IL, Victoria Hatley of Carterville, IL and many nieces and nephews.

Joseph is preceded in death by his parents, one brother, Steve, one sister, Donna, four children: Joseph Dale, Joyce Ann, Kenneth Lynn, and Christina Eve.

Graveside services will be held at 3:00 pm, Tuesday, April 19, 2022, at Evergreen Cemetery, Ava, IL. Family and friends are asked to meet at the cemetery.
