PERCY – John V. Slechticky, 63, of Percy, passed away at 3:25 pm, Sunday, August 6, 2017 at St. Elizabeth Hospital in Belleville.
John was born in Murphysboro, on April 14, 1954, the son of James Louis and Margaret K. Collins Slechticky. John graduated from Trico High School in 1972 and studied Engineering at SIUC. He worked at Sparta Light Metals for 44 years. He was a member of Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church in Sparta; Sparta Eagles Aeries #3059; Our Lady of Lourdes Knights of Columbus; and Fort Kaskaskia Assembly of the 4th Degree Knights of Columbus. He enjoyed playing golf, deer hunting, and riding his motorcycle with friends. He loved sharing time with fellow Knights of Columbus and working at the fish fries and calling bingo.
John is survived by a daughter, Leah Slechticky of Collinsville; two granddaughters, Jayla and Carina Slechticky; sisters, Ann (Mike) Baschieri of Peoria, Kathryn (Fred) Taylor of Ava, Mary (Mike) Highland of Thomson, IL and Teresa (Tony) Marotta of Rockford, IL; brother, Chris Slechticky of Savanna, IL; several nieces and nephews; and several great nieces and great nephews.
John was preceded in death by his Parents.Funeral service will be held at 11:00 am, Saturday, August 12, 2017 at Wilson's Funeral Home in Ava with Father Leo J. Hayes officiating. Burial will follow at Ava Evergreen Cemetery. Visitation will be held at Wilson's Funeral Home, Ava, where friends may call from 9 am until 11 am Saturday, with Knights of Columbus Chalice Service being held at 10 am. Memorials may be given to Cardinal Glennon Hospital.
