Obituary

CHESTER – John A. Mulholland, 65, formerly of Sparta, was called Home to be with his Lord and Savior at 7:57pm on Friday July 17, 2020 at Missouri Baptist Medical Center in St. Louis, Missouri.

John was born November 21, 1954 in Red Bud, the son of the late John H. and Felma V. (Boyster) Mulholland.  John was united in holy matrimony on November 27, 1974 to Nancy L. McCormick.  John was a strong Believer and of the Baptist Faith.

John was a retired industrial forklift operator at GS Metals in Pinckneyville.  In his retirement he enjoyed grilling for gatherings, tinkering, fishing, word searches and reading his mule magazines.  He always enjoyed having you sit down for a nice swing with him and talking things over.  As a beloved husband, dad, pawpaw, son, brother, uncle, nephew and cousin and so the list goes he was devoted.  His family was everything to him and he made sure you knew it in his very own special way, that only he could do.  He could make you laugh like no other, before or after him.  He ha a way of taking in strangers and making them feel just like family.

He will be forever missed, but NEVER forgotten.

John is survived by his wife, three sons, John "Benji" Mulholland, Jason (Rubie) Mulholland of Carterville and William "Kodi" Mulholland (fiancé Ericka) of Sparta; four grandchildren, Alayna, Joshua, Josiah and Naomi Mulholland; two brothers, Bill (Carolyn) Mulholland of Florida and Mel (Tina) Mulholland of Sparta; five sisters, Reta Grissett of Virginia, Evelyn Mulholland of Indiana, Gayle (John) McCormick of Sparta, Cathy (Dan) Wolf of Sparta, Amy (Rob) Asher of Steeleville.  Sister in law, Linda Mulholland of Steeleville.  Three Brothers in Law, Bob (Carol) McCormick of Virginia, John (Gayle) McCormick of Sparta and Bill (Mary) McCormick of Indiana.  He is also survived by several dearly loved nieces and nephews.

John was preceded in death by his parents, brother, Steven Mulholland, in laws, William and Eleonore McCormick and two nephews, Randy Spreitler and Rubin Kalua'u as well as many other loved ones.

Per John's request, he will be cremated.  There was a Celebration of Life held in his honor at Loyalty Missionary Baptist Church in Eden on Monday July 20 th with Pastor Tommy Foster officiating.  There will be private burial at a later date.  In lieu of flowers, memorial may be made to the family.
