Obituary

MURPHYSBORO - JoAnn Carter joined her heavenly Father on Wednesday July 3 rd , 2019. She passed in her home, surrounded by her loved ones. JoAnn Vaught was born December 7 th , 1933 to John and Gertrude Martin Vaught. JoAnn grew up on the Family Dairy Farm in rural Murphysboro. As a teenager she assisted her Father in running the Marlow Theater (Liberty Theatre) becoming one of the first female ushers.

JoAnn married Donald E. Carter of Jacob, IL. On July 9 th , 1950. He preceded in death on December 16, 2013. They loved the simple life. Some of their best times were spent at the lake picnicking and catching fish with their family. They loved growing a garden and having Sunday dinners where everyone was together.

JoAnn adored her children and grandchildren. One of her most cherished accomplishments was being able to help in the raising them. She gave graciously of herself putting the needs and care of others first. She was a member of Christ Community Church and no matter what life brought she always remained strong in her faith on her journey to meet God.

JoAnn is survived by two sons, David E. Carter and Jeff (Judy) Carter; two daughters, Donna (Fred) Davis and Jennifer (William) Wyatt all of Murphysboro; six grandchildren, Jessica (Gary) Piquard, Justin (Brittanie) Carter, Jacki Carter, Christin King, Jake Carter and Cameron King; six Great-grandchildren, Gary Piquard III, Reaghan Piquard, Lilly Carter, Laila King, June Murphy, and Daisy Carter all of Murphysboro; two step grandsons, Willie LePere and Mark Davis; four step great grandchildren, Troy, Geordan, Victoria LePere and Jake (Lysette) Flare; two great great step grandsons; one sister, Ruth Verbal of Murphysboro; one sister in law, Ruby (George) Knight of Carmi, IL; and many nieces and nephews; also, two special friends Loretta and Micheal Bailey.

She was also proceeded in death by her parents and two infant brothers.

Funeral service will be held on Monday, July 8, 2019, at Noon, at Christ Community Church in Murphysboro, with Pastor Rick McNeely officiating.  Burial will follow at Murdale Gardens of Memory, Murphysboro.  Visitation will be at the church on Sunday from 5 pm until 8 pm and on Monday from 11:00 am until Noon.  Memorials may be made to the funeral home to help offset funeral expenses.
