AVA – Joan Carol (Hickman) Degenhardt, 78, of Ava passed away at home with her family on Friday, October 13, 2017.
Joan was born on May 19, 1939 to James and Alberna (Arbeiter) Hickman of Vergennes, IL. She married Gary Degenhardt, of Ava, IL on October 2, 1959. They had four daughters, two of which died in infancy (Valerie and Vanessa), Cathy (Bill) Schemonia of Vergennes, IL and Teresa (Mark) Tucker of Buncombe, IL. She had 4 grandchildren; Candy (Josh) Hepp, Leslie (Ryan) Bockhorn, Dylan Tucker and Dalton Tucker, two step-grandchildren; Neal Schemonia and Erik Schemonia and 6 great-grandchildren; Lily and Paisly Hepp, Logan and Rylan Bockhorn and Kennedy and Zeke Schemonia.
Joan loved spending time with her family and enjoyed painting, crafting, genealogy, and traveling.
There will be a private service, where she will be laid to rest at the Ava Evergreen Cemetery. She asked that any memorials be made to the St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital. Wilson's Funeral Home in Ava has been entrusted with the arrangements.
