AVA – Jewell Elsie Levan, 90, of Ava, passed away Tuesday, March 1, 2022, at Cedarhurst of Sparta, Sparta, Illinois.

Jewell was born July 19, 1931, in rural Ava, IL, to Leo F. and Mabel E. Holliday Tope. She married Robert L. Levan on August 13, 1950, in Ava, IL, he preceded her in death on June 25, 2008. Jewell was a homemaker, a seamstress, a vigneron – helping to manage the vineyard farm alongside her husband. She was a member of the Steeleville Baptist Church and Murphysboro First Christian Church.

Jewell is survived by her children: Robert Michael (Shelley) Levan of Crawfordville, FL, Gayla (Mark) Bradley of Steeleville, IL; son-in-law, Carl Gustafson of Lockport, IL, grandchildren: Anissa Levan (Max) Falmier, Eric (Molley) Gustafson, Shaun Gustafson, Andrea Bradley (Charlie) Westerfield, Chelsea Bradley (Chad) Maddox; great grandchildren: Rawley and Brooks Falmier, Audrey and Annika Gustafson, Josephine, Sophia and Benjamin Gustafson, Julia and Noelle Westerfield, Sayla Maddox; siblings: June (Jim) Jeffers of Steeleville, IL, Barbara Heiple of Murphysboro, IL, Beverly Bryant of Ava, IL, DeFlain Phoenix of Ava, IL, and Margie Heiman of Ava, IL.

Jewell is also preceded in death by her parents, one daughter, Deborah Gustafson, three brothers: Gene, LeeRoy, and William Tope.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 am, Saturday, March 5, 2022, at Wilson's Funeral Home, Ava, IL, with Rev. Matthew Collins officiating. Burial to follow at Pleasant Hill Cemetery, Murphysboro, IL. Visitation will be at Wilson's Funeral Home, Ava, IL, where friends may call from 5 - 8 pm, Friday and on Saturday from 7:30 – 10:00 am.
