SPARTA – Jeffrey A. Colbert, 65, of Sparta, passed away at 12:51 am, Monday, April 3, 2017 at the Sparta Community Hospital, Sparta, Illinois.

Jeffrey was born in Sparta, Illinois on October 12, 1951, the son of Vernon and Lucille Hartenberger Colbert. He married Susan Cairns on September 5, 1971 in Coulterville, Illinois. He was a retired self-employed Electronic Tech and worked for various companies. He was currently working for the City of Sparta Public Library as their project next generation mentor. Jeff was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church, Sparta; a former member of Sparta Lions Club; and a former member of the Lay Ministry Board at the church.

Jeffrey is survived by his wife, Susan Colbert of Sparta; two sons, Jeffrey Eric Colbert of Trenton, IL and Adam Neil Colbert of Sparta, IL; mother, Lucille Colbert of Sparta; mother-in-law, Beulah Cairns of Sparta; two sisters, Marsha (Larry) Thomas of Sparta and Sara (Robert) Schoenborn of Waterloo, IL; and brother, Greg Colbert of Euless, TX.

Jeffrey was preceded in death by his Father and Father-in-law.

Funeral service will be held at 11:00 am, Friday, April 7, 2017 at the St. John's Lutheran Church in Sparta, with Rev. Cory Marth officiating. Burial will follow at Caledonia Cemetery in Sparta. Visitation will be at St. John's Lutheran Church on Thursday from 6 pm until 8 pm and on Friday from 9 am until 11 am. Memorials may be given to St. John's Lutheran Church, Sparta Public Library or Randolph County Humane Society.
