SPARTA – Janice M. Hamilton, 90, went to her Heavenly home on Monday, February 24, 2025, at Gateway Regional Medical Center, Granite City, IL.
Janice was born on December 23, 1934, in East St. Louis, IL, the daughter of Roland H. and Margret E. (Lutz) Mathews. She was a faithful, loving wife and partner to William E. Hamilton. They were married on December 22, 1956, at St. John's Church, Evansville, IL. William preceded her in death on August 23, 2017. Janice was a proud graduate of Culver Stockton College, Canton, MO. She retired as a teacher from Evansville School and still talked fondly about her students. Janice was active in giving back to others through community involvement and philanthropy with the Hospital Auxiliary, Delta Theta Tau Sorority, and her church. She was a faithful member of Bethel Reformed Presbyterian Church, Sparta, IL, for over 60 years.
Janice is survived by her children: Jan Davis of Coulterville, IL, John (Jennifer) Hamilton of Sparta, IL; her grandchildren: Zachary (Kaylyn) Davis of Marion, IL, Ronnie G (Amber) Davis, Sr. of DuQuoin, IL, Isabelle L. (AJ) Fair of Sparta, IL, Eli M. Hamilton of Sparta, IL, Jack A. Hamilton of Sparta, IL, Sophie A. Hamilton of Sparta, IL; her great grandchildren: Asher Davis, Ronnie G. Davis, Jr., Charlotte Davis; her brother, William (Judy) Mathews of Plano, TX, her sister-in-law, Marilyn Hamilton of Sparta, IL; her niece, JoEllen, her nephews: Jim, Jay, Dave, and Dan.
Janice was preceded in death by her parents, and a brother-in-law, Roger R. Hamilton.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, March 1, 2025, at 10:00 am, at Bethel Reformed Presbyterian Church, Sparta, IL, with Rev. Alex Eppstein officiating. Burial will follow at Sauer Cemetery, Evansville, IL. Visitation will be Friday evening, where friends may call from 4 – 7 pm, and then on Saturday, 9 -10 am, at the church. Memorials may be given to Bethel Hospitality Committee or Missions to the World and can be mailed to Wilson's Funeral Home, P.O. Box 217, Steeleville, IL 62288.
