SPARTA – Janet S. Hewerdine, 75, of Sparta, passed away Wednesday, April 28, 2021 at her home in Sparta, IL.

Janet was born May 1, 1945 in Thebes, IL, at home, to Francis and Susie Markel Jackson.  She married Gary H. Hewerdine on July 5, 1991 in Wickliffe, KY.  Janet was a retired waitress. She was a beloved mother, wife, grandmother, sister, and aunt. She was also known as "Huggy Bear" or "Huggy" to her nieces, nephews, and neighborhood children. They always knew she would take time to stop what she was doing to play a game, talk, listen, or have an impromptu movie night at her house. She was the person that everyone came to with their problems. She could always bring a smile and laugh to anyone she met. She LOVED yard sales, thrift stores, and anywhere she could find a bargain! She will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.

Janet is survived by her husband, Gary H. Hewerdine of Sparta, IL, children; Teena (Ken) Turner of Ellis Grove, IL, Brion (Sherry) Skaggs of Steeleville, IL, stepchildren; Helo (Angie) Hewerdine of Johnston City, IL, Gary Wade (Anita) Hewerdine of Mt. Vernon, IL, Lori Hewerdine of Sparta, IL, eight grandchildren; Lucas Turner, Mary (Joe) Smiecinski, Josh (Jennifer) Randolph, Madison Compton, Katie (Gale) Lafoon, Candace (Mike) Roberts, Tommy (Samantha) Morrison, six great grandchildren, twin sister, Linda Lee of Metropolis, IL, siblings; Shelby Spencer of North Carolina, Caroline Macintyre of Cairo, IL, Dearl Jackson of Springfield, IL, special nieces; Pam Taylor and Wendy Siegelman.

Janet was preceded in death by her parents two brothers and one sister.

Janet's wishes were for cremation with a Memorial service at a later date. Memorials may be given to the American Cancer Society and can be mailed to Wilson Funeral Home, P.O.
