SPARTA – James C. McDonald, 89, of Sparta, passed away at 12:54 pm, Wednesday, November 28, 2018 in Sparta.

Jim was born in Steeleville, Illinois, on June 18, 1929, the son of Cecil and Alice Smith McDonald.  Jim married Domenica Hacker on September 15, 1956 at Trinity Presbyterian Church, Sparta.  He was retired from the US Post Office in Sparta, after 46 years of Service in the Sparta area.  Jim was a veteran of the US Army, having served during the Korean Conflict from 1951 until 1953.  He was a member of the Trinity Presbyterian Church in Sparta, VFW Post #2698 in Sparta, American Legion Post #396 in Sparta, Hope Lodge #162 A.F. & A.M., Sparta, and Sparta Senior Citizens.  Jim was active in various church organizations at Trinity Presbyterian Church and was a Former board member at Chester National Bank.

Jim is survived by his wife, Domenica McDonald of Sparta;  children, Judy (Jim) Sarwark of Sparta, Patti (Jim) Kelly of Park Ridge, IL, and Tim (Catina Hayes) McDonald of Sparta; and grandchildren, Christopher, Allison, Kristen, Kevin, Megan, Grace and Anna.

Mr. McDonald was preceded in death by his Parents and one grandson, Tom Sarwark.

Funeral service will be held at 11:00 am, Saturday, December 8, 2018 at Trinity Presbyterian Church, Sparta, with Pastor David Hoffelmeyer and Pastor Art Ames officiating.  Burial will follow in Caledonia Cemetery, Sparta.  Visitation will be at the church on Friday, December 7, 2018 from 6 pm until 8 pm and on Saturday, December 8, 2018 from 9 am until 11 am.  Memorials may be given to Trinity Presbyterian Church or Sparta Senior Center.
