MURPHYSBORO – James A. Lucas, 68, passed away on Tuesday, August 11, 2026, at Herrin Hospital, Herrin, Illinois.

Jim was born on July 27, 1958, in St. Louis, MO, to Paul and Sally (Pulcher) Lucas. Jim was a Veteran of the U.S. Air Force, having served from 1976 to 1986. He had his Associates Degree in Aircraft Mechanics from SIU Carbondale, IL. After leaving the Air Force, Jim worked with several private airlines and ended his work career doing custodial work for Walmart in Carbondale. He enjoyed bowling, darts and was a snorkeling enthusiast. Jim loved figuring out how things worked and fixing up old bicycles.

Jim is survived by his sister, Sallie Lucas of Hickory Hills, IL and his brother, Michael Lucas of Wilmington, NC.

Jim was preceded in death by his parents, his 2 brothers: Paul D. Lucas and Jeffrey Lucas.

Graveside services will be held on Saturday, September 19, 2026, 10:30 am, at Ava Evergreen Cemetery, Ava, IL. Memorials may be given to Disabled American Veterans, and can be mailed to Wilson’s Funeral Home, P.O. Box 277, Ava, IL 62907.
