Obituary

STEELEVILLE – On July 16, 2024, Irvin D. Harvey of Steeleville received his "promotion" into Heaven. He was born on February 7, 1936, to Samuel and Elva (Sloan) Harvey in Anna, IL.

In 6th grade he met a girl, Katy, who would become the love of his life. He carried her books home from school through Jr. High. They became High School sweethearts and married on March 15, 1957, in Anna, IL. Irvin was enlisted the U.S. Air Force at the time.

In November of 1962 they adopted their daughter, Jane. In 1964, they moved to Steeleville, where Irvin became the Country Companies agent. They started a life there, surrounded by strangers who became wonderful friends. He was a member of United Methodist Church in Steeleville. In October of 1968, they adopted their son, John, and that made their family complete. Irvin retired from Country Companies after 27 years and then became an Investment Representative for Edward Jones. He retired from there after 15 years. In 1988, he became a grandpa to Chelsea and in 2022 he became a great grandpa to Augie. They were the light of his life.

When he became a resident at Three Springs Nursing Home each employee became his extended family and him, theirs. Our family can never thank them enough for their kindness and compassion. Irvin loved his family and friends beyond measure, and they returned that love in kind. He enjoyed fishing, working in his woodshop and spending time with family.

Irvin is survived by his children: Jane Hanna of Steeleville, IL, John (Jackie) Harvey of Las Vegas, NV; his granddaughter, Chelsea Yelm of Steeleville, IL, his grandson, August Irvin Ortega, his brother Fred Harvey of Chicago, IL and several nieces and nephews.

Irvin was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Kathryn, and a brother, James Harvey.
