MURPHYSBORO, Iris L. Garver, 73, of Murphysboro, passed away at 8:56 P.M. Sunday, September 18, 2011, at her home in Murphysboro, IL. She was born December 23, 1937 in Vergennes, Illinois the daughter of Everett Steele and Ruby (White) Steele. Iris married Wally Garver on July 3, 1959. Wally passed away on November 10, 1994. She is survived by one son: Roger L. Garver and Fiancée, Meredith Matzig; three daughters: Trena J. Owens (Todd Poretta)of Kansas City , MO, Kathy A. and Herb Johnson of Elkville, IL, Robin L. and Eddie Taylor of Murphysboro, IL; grandchildren: Tyler and Mitchell Garver, Samantha and Ryan Matzig, Crystal and Kory Kimmel, Heather and Tracy Ferguson, Iris Johnson, Owen and Allyson Taylor, Casi and Greg Johnston, Tuesday Owens, Timmy and Marissa Phillips; great grandchildren: Kennedy, Kobyn, and Kantyn Kimmel, Collin and Colten Ferguson, Brayden and Brooklyn Moutria, Gage Taylor, Dale and Haley Johnston, Tucker Jameson, Timmy, Tabatha and Triston Phillips; four sisters: Wanda Herd of Murphysboro, IL, Doris Jane Vegas of CA, Mary Throop of Chester, IL, Sharon Steele of Murphysboro, IL; brother: John Wayne Steele of Las Vegas, NV. Iris is preceded in death by her parents, one brother, Hobert Steele. She was a retired housekeeper and also a member of Berean Christian Church of Murphysboro, IL. Funeral services will be held Thursday, September 22, 2011 at 11:00 A.M. at Wilson's Funeral Home in Ava. Rev. Mark Goins will be officiating. Burial will be at Ava Evergreen Cemetery. Visitation will be held at Wilson's Funeral Home, Ava on Wednesday from 6 to 8pm and then on Thursday from 7:30am to 11am. Memorials may be made to Relay for Life or Hospice of Southern Illinois.
