AVA – Howard W. Cotton, 84, of Ava, passed away on Thursday, December 17, 2015 at his home in Ava.
Howard was born in Kankakee, Illinois on April 2, 1931, the son of the late Elmo and Helen Taylor Cotton. He married Frances Lowey on December 22, 1955 in Bradley, Illinois. She preceded him in death on February 5, 1998. He was a retired Foreman from Arch Coal and Captain Mines. Howard was a veteran of the US Navy, having served during the Korean Conflict. He was a member of the Stage Company.
Howard is survived by four children, Kelly Cotton of Jackson, MO, David (Wendy) Cotton of Waterloo, IL, Julie (Danny) McCrite of Tamms, IL and Jason Cotton of Ava; 12 grandchildren; 8 great grandchildren; his companion, Barbara Phillips of Ava; and two sisters, Donna (Ed) Paupuette of Kankankee, IL and Christine Hodges of Mason, Michigan.
Howard was also preceded in death by his Parents; one daughter, Mary Essex; and one sister, Sharon Bellars.
It was Howard's wishes to be cremated and there will not be any services. Burial will be at a later date at Abraham Lincoln Cemetery in Elwood, IL. Memorials may be made to the Stage Company in Carbondale or Hospice of Southern Illinois.
