STEELEVILLE, Homer M. "Mike" Russell, 73, of Steeleville, passed away on Sunday, December 14, 2014, at Missouri Baptist Medical Center in St. Louis, Missouri. He was born August 23, 1941 in Murphysboro, IL, the son of Homer R. and Gladys (Guymon) Russell. Mike married Ruth Ann Zeidler on August 23, 1968 at St. John's Lutheran Church in Chester, IL. Mike was retired from Menard Correctional Center, Menard, IL, where he worked as a guard. In the early 70's he was a part time police officer for the Village of Steeleville. Mike was a veteran of the U. S. Air Force. He was a member of St. Mark's Lutheran Church in Steeleville, IL. He is survived by his wife: Ruth A. Russell, Steeleville, IL; Sons: Steven M. (Beth) Russell, Plainfield, IL and Scott A. (Michelle) Russell, St. Louis, MO and Grandsons: Cooper, Michael and Ryan. Mike is preceded in death by his parents. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, December 17, 2014 at 1:00 PM at St. Mark's Lutheran Church Steeleville, Illinois with Rev. Kelly Bedard officiating. Burial will follow at Paradise Cemetery, Steeleville, IL. Visitation will be at Wilson's Funeral Home, Steeleville, where friends may call on Tuesday from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM and then on Wednesday from 7:30 to 11AM and from Noon to 1PM at the church. Memorials may be made to St. Mark's School.
