STEELEVILLE – Herman W. Mayer, 90, of Steeleville, passed away Sunday, March 20, 2022, at Cedarhurst Senior Living, Sparta, IL.
Herman was born June 18, 1931, in Coulterville, IL, to Herman and Marie Rabe Mayer. He married Darlene Brockmeyer on January 26, 1952, at St. Paul's Lutheran Church/Wine Hill. Herman was a U.S. Army Veteran of Korean Conflict. After the Army, he was a book keeper at Duvardo Furniture, Sparta, IL, then retiring from First National Bank of Steeleville as a loan officer. He was a member of St. Mark's Lutheran Church, Steeleville, IL, and B.B.K. American Legion Post #480, Steeleville, IL. Herman loved spending time with his grandchildren, great grandchildren, and family. He loved farming as a child, woodworking, gardening, and rebuilding lawn tractors.
Herman is survived by his wife, Darlene Mayer of Steeleville, IL, children: Brenda (John) Parker of Steeleville, IL, Deb (Randy) Caby of Campbell Hill, IL, Ron (Lana) Mayer of Cape Girardeau, Mo; grandchildren: Alicia & Craig Rednour, Aaron (Lindsey) Miesner, Bethany & Justin Parker, Amanda & Ryan Cleland, Scott & Brittany Caby, Rachel & Tiglet Besara, Jairus & Natasha Mayer, John Parker, Jr., Elizabeth Parker; fifteen great grandchildren, siblings, Erna M. (George) Salger of Steeleville, IL, Verna Beck of St. Louis, MO, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Herman is preceded in death by his parents, one brother, Lloyd, three sisters, Loriena Ebers, Virginia Ebers Marion Roethlesberger, and one son-in-law, James Miesner.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am, Friday, March 25, 2022, at St. Mark's Lutheran Church, Steeleville, with Rev. Mark Harriss officiating. Burial to follow at Paradise Cemetery, Steeleville. Visitation will be at St. Mark's Lutheran Church, where friends and family may call from 5 - 8 pm, Thursday and 8 – 11 am, Friday.
