STEELEVILLE, Herman L. Edler, 95, of Steeleville, passed away at 8:07 A.M. Tuesday, November 25, 2008, at Sparta Community Hospital in Sparta, IL. Herman was born July 14, 1913 in Percy, Illinois the son of Henry Edler and Wilhelmina (Kothe) Edler. He married Lydell D. Alms on June 1, 1946 in Steeleville, IL, she preceded him in death on December 1, 2007. Herman served in the Army during World War II and earned a purple heart during that time. He was a farmer. Herman was a member of St. Mark's Lutheran Church in Steeleville, IL; B.B.K. American Legion Post #480 in Steeleville; St. Mark's Lutheran Layman League; a life member of DAV #780 and Kaskaskia V.F.W. Post 33553 of Chester, IL. He is survived by one son, Leo H. Edler of Percy, IL; one daughter, Ruth Engdahl of Kitty Hawk, NC; three grandchildren, Aaron Edler of Lake Villa, IL, Ethan Edler of Russelville, KY and Eric Engdahl of Chicago, IL; two great grandchildren, Emma & Elana Edler of Russelville, KY. He was also preceded in death by Parents and three brothers. Funeral services will be held Saturday, November 29, 2008 at 2:00 P.M. at St. Mark's Lutheran Church in Steeleville with Rev. Dr. Alan W. Janneke officiating. Burial will follow at St. Mark's Lutheran Cemetery. Visitation will be held at Wilson's Funeral Home, Steeleville on Friday from 6 to 8 pm and on Saturday from 7:30 am until 9 am and on Saturday at St. Mark's Lutheran Church, Steeleville from 10 am until 2 pm. American Legion services will be at Wilson's Funeral Home on Friday at 8 pm. Memorials may be made to General Fund at St. Mark's or the Roof Fund at St. Mark's.
