STEELEVILLE, Herbert Louis Emil Liefer, 92, of Steeleville, formerly of Campbell Hill, passed away at 8:30 A.M. Sunday, April 17, 2011, at St. Ann's Healthcare Center in Chester, IL. He was born July 15, 1918 in Campbell Hill, Illinois the son of Theodore C. Liefer and Wilhelmina (Ehlers) Liefer. He was baptized at St. Peter's Lutheran Church in Campbell Hill on July 28, 1918, by Rev. Hitzemann, where he became a lifelong member. Herbert attended the Shiloh Hill Community Grade School for several years and was confirmed at St. Peter's Lutheran Church on March 29, 1931. He worked as a lineman for R.E.A., truck driver, school bus driver, cooked molasses at his molasses mill, held numerous offices in church, sang in the church choir for many years, as well as a full time farmer. Herbert married Bertha Lange on August 25, 1940. Bertha passed away on January 3, 2004. He is survived by two sons: Roger and Sadie Liefer of St. Peters, MO and Dale and Debbie Liefer of Ballwin, MO; three daughters: Rose Marie Bartens, Eldean and Leslie Troue and Marla and Steve Helmers all of Steeleville, 17 grandchildren, and 22 great grandchildren, and 1 great great grandson. He is preceded in death by his wife, one son, Arlin, his parents, step-mother, sister, one infant brother, brother-in-law, son-in-law, one grandson and one great great grandson. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am Wednesday, April 20, 2011 at St. Peter's Lutheran Church in Campbell Hill with Rev. Al Kornacki and Rev. Dr. Alan W. Janneke will be officiating. Burial will be at St. Peter's Lutheran Cemetery in Campbell Hill. Visitation will be held at Wilson's Funeral Home, Steeleville on Tuesday from 5-8 PM and then on Wednesday from 7:30 to 9am then from 10-11am at the church. Pallbearers are his grandsons, Mark Troue, Marvin Bartens, Adam Helmers, Ryan Bartens, Todd Liefer ,and Jason Helmers.
