MURPHYSBORO – Herbert L. Elbrecht, 89, of Virden, formerly of Murphysboro, passed away on Monday, August 26, 2019, at the St. John's Hospital in Springfield, Illinois.

Herbert was born on December 4, 1929, in Grand Tower the son of Clarence and Prudy (Lowe) Elbrecht. He served as a Military policeman in the U.S. Army during the Korean conflict. He married Loretta Lee Davis, on December 30, 1951 at the United Brethen Church, in Vergennes, they shared 47 years of marriage before she preceded him in death on July 13, 1999. Herbert then married Joanne Fifer on October 21, 2000, and she preceded him in death on February 15, 2013. Mr. Elbrecht was a retired printing pressman at Luster, and a member of the Pleasant Hill Christian Church, Murphysboro, and a Ham Radio operator.

Herbert is survived by his children; Gary Elbrecht, of Murphysboro, Beverly (Clifton) Franklin, of Virden, Illinois, 6 grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren, and 1 great great grandson. He is also survived by 2 brothers; Les Elbrecht, of Murphysboro, and Virgil Elbrecht, of Virginia.

Mr. Elbrecht was preceded in death by his parents, grandson; Bryan Franklin, daughter – in – law; Winnie.

Funeral services will be held at 11:30 AM, Saturday, August 31, 2019, at the Wilson's Funeral Home in Ava with Minister Deb Rathert officiating, burial will follow at Pleasant Grove Memorial Park, Murphysboro. Visitation will be held on Saturday morning at the funeral home where friends may call from 10:30 AM until 11:30 AM. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the Alzheimer's Association or the American Diabetes Association.
